McGill's Community Band was organized in 1985 as the fulfillment of David
McGillicuddy's dream. As instrumental director of S.A.D. #29, David
had dreamed of forming a community band made up local musicians that would
perform in Monument Park on nice summer evenings as had been done by the
Houlton Town Band in the past.
In 1985 approximately
55 area musicians came together to form McGill's Community Band.
Today the band consists of approximately 80 musicians from Aroostook County
and New Brunswick as well as out of state summer residents. McGill's
Community band has been delighting audiences of all ages for 19 consecutive
summers. Outdoor concerts are performed every Thursday evening in
Monument Park in Houlton’s Amphitheater. The band also participates
in Houlton's Fourth of July festivities. Whenever possible, McGill's Band
participates in the annual R.B. Hall day celebration the last weekend in
June. The summer concert season closes in early September with an inside
concert at Houlton High School Auditorium.
